Residents who were told to evacuate during an armed police incident in Glen Eden this evening have been told they can return to their homes.

Police have now arrested a 31-year-old man, who is being held at the Henderson Police Station.

The incident started shortly after 5pm, with police being called to a domestic incident on Meadowvale Rise in Glen Eden.

The Armed Offenders Squad attended the scene due to suspicions there were firearms involved.

Nearby residents were escorted out of their homes by armed police carrying shields.

Local resident, Lola Olson, says police used her home as a vantage point as the man refused to come out of his house.

“Police said to me ‘I need you guys to get out of your house, we need to use your house for access.’”

Several canisters of tear gas were used to get the man out of the house, and no shots were fired.

The Armed Offenders Squad have now been stood down.

Residents have now been cleared to return to their homes, and police are not looking for anyone else.
