Aucklanders are unanimous in their support of an NRL State of Origin game being played in the city in 2018.

The possibility was leaked to media following reports that the NRL is preparing to sell one State of Origin game to a venue outside of Queensland and New South Wales (NSW).

This year’s series, which kicked off last night in Sydney, will feature NSW hosting two fixtures of the three-match competition at their home ground of ANZ Stadium.

The proposed move follows previous years’ fixture plans, which have featured one of the matches taking place in Melbourne.

Auckland’s Eden Park would be the favourite Kiwi venue to host the fixture being the largest stadium in New Zealand with a capacity of 50,000 people.

New Zealand already has a large following of State of Origin, despite both teams being Australian.

Te Waha Nui took to the streets to find out whether or not the Auckland public was behind the popular clash being held here, and found a strong backing for the fixture.
