In this edition of the Te Waha Nui South Island bulletin; the missing trampers have been found, a man has allegedly smashed a glass door at the Dunedin courthouse and Air NZ has added new flights to service the business community.
- The Otago Daily times and The Press is leading with the successful search and rescue mission to find two South Island trampers who were found alive Weds May 27 after being missing for 18 days.
An Air Force helicopter landed at Nelson airport this afternoon carrying missing trampers Jessica O’Connor and Dion Reynolds.
St John confirmed the pair were taken to the Nelson Hospital with minor injuries.
Found alive today at 12.49pm, Paul Borrell Area Commander Detective Inspector says they “seemed to be in reasonably good health”.
A jersey found in the search on Tuesday was believed to belong to the pair but this morning a police spokesperson says it was unlikely, after no friends or family could identify it.
The pair were both 23 and entered the Anatori Valley on May 9.
- Another top story for South Island media outlets is that of a man allegedly smashing a glass door at the Dunedin Courthouse as seen on the Otago Daily Times.
A 45-year-old Mosgiel man allegedly smashed a glass door at the Dunedin courthouse, this morning. He will appear in court today after being charged with wilful damage.
The man had a protest sign reading “Now pretty sure past deals not suiting case so what are the Government and their criminal associates up to and who are the police really looking after”.
- The Southland Times, The Press and ODT also featured a story on added Air New Zealand flights for the business sector
This morning Air New Zealand has announced new flights in and out of Dunedin and Invercargill, aimed at servicing the business community.
The airline will operate business-timed flights allowing customers in Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Nelson, Dunedin, and Invercargill to spend a day of business in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.
