A local naturist club says member numbers are up, but many young people are still not sold on the idea of stripping off in a group.

A recent online poll revealed that some naturist clubs around the world have seen a decrease in membership numbers, especially from young people.

Naturist clubs are private clubs where people go about their lives without clothes.

However, Robyn Grace, secretary at the Auckland Outdoor Naturist Club, said their group has recently been experiencing the opposite.

“Our membership’s growing . . . some weeks we have eight new potential members.”

She said the Auckland Outdoor Naturist Club has members ranging in age from 20 to 60 years old.

Te Waha Nui asked young people in Auckland if they would consider joining a naturist club, and found the majority would not be comfortable.

However, some would consider attending a naturist club once to “give it a try” or would potentially visit a club overseas.
