Animal-rights advocates will march in Auckland’s CBD on Saturday to both protest about animal welfare in New Zealand and celebrate how far animals rights have come.

An expected 800 supporters from across the country will march from Mahuhukiterangi Reserve, beside Spark Arena, down Beach Road and Customs Road, then up Queen Street, finishing at Aotea Square, where the crowd will hear form eight animal-rights speakers.

Co-organiser Claire McRae, from Auckland Vegan Actions, said the time was right for the "First Official Animal Rights March" in the city and animal rights would be the next shift in social consciousness.

“Our goal with this march is to unite all animal-activist groups and organisations to march for one cause, and to show the public and the Government that this is something we care about.”
