Man’s best friend is invited to Silo Park on Saturday, for the annual Dog Day Afternoon.

John Sutton, Silo Park event manager, said “it is a very inclusive space, and we want to encourage people to use Silo Park and bring their dogs along to our event.”

The Bark Organisation will be helping to manage the event. They are a non-profit organisation created to support the community with regards to the safety of children around dogs.

Mr Sutton said, “The Bark Organisation will be managing the entry and exit points around the off leash areas, along with educating people on how to handle dogs and approach them if they’re not confident around them.”

Grey Lynn Vet Care will also be at the event, for dog first aid, general check-ups and nail clipping.

Rachael White, Veterinary Nurse from Grey Lynn Vet Care, said “we are asked to be there to make sure all the dogs play nice and safely, do some nail trimming and give out goodie bags.”

Mr Sutton said, “it is also a good way to educate the rest of the public around dogs in urban areas.”

There are range of activities for both owners and dogs on the day. There is an agility course for dogs and a small dog market, which is all sponsored by Black Hawk dog food.

There is also live entertainment for the owners, ranging from stand-up comedy, live DJ’s and music, along with a licensed bar.

Comedian Hamish Parkinson will be hosting the dog walk and also doing some stand-up comedy throughout the day.
