‘It’s time for us to give something back’ - Aucklanders on Poppy Day

Thousands of Aucklanders proudly displayed their support for the annual Poppy Day appeal last Friday

Thousands of Aucklanders pinned a red poppy on their chest on Friday in support of the annual Poppy Day appeal.

This year's event marked 100 years of Auckland’s Returned Services Association’s support for the veterans, and current service men and women.

The Poppy Day street collection appeal was designed to remind people to acknowledge those who served the nation in the armed services.

In a press release from the Returned Services Association, the Auckland RSA said they could not deliver their duty of care and support without the generous donations received each year.

Many people Te Waha Nui spoke to supported the appeal due to the importance of remembering those who fought for our country.

The day was also a reminder that Anzac Day commemorations take place on Monday April 25.
