Early bar closing times won't 'really change much'

Te Waha Nui hits the street to find out what people think about bars closing earlier than 4am

Do Aucklanders want bars to close earlier?

In the wake of four large fights in downtown Auckland on Sunday morning, police are calling for a change in legislation surrounding nightclub closing times.

In an interview with Radio NZ, Inspector Gary Davey said the Auckland Council needs to consider closing bars earlier than 4am.

Inspector Davey suggested people stop being let into bars at 1.30am, and that all bars shut down completely at 3am.

Te Waha Nui asked people in the Auckland CBD their thoughts, and found many think the earlier close times would not work, with fights likely to happen regardless of what time people are let in to clubs.

However, some believed it would be a good change overall to address issues of violence in the inner city.
