In your local liquor store you'll find plenty of Kiwi-made wine. But how does it look in wine shops abroad – do they know we exist?
Te Waha Nui ran the numbers and compiled an infographic tracking the progress towards New Zealand Wine’s export goal of $2 billion of wine each year.
And it seems the country is well on its way, with roughly a 10 per cent rise in exports yearly, adding up to $1.57 billion worth of export in 2016.
“This continued strong performance is testament to underlying market and consumer demand for
our wines in key markets,” said Steve Green, chairman of New Zealand Winegrowers.
He expects a better wine harvest from 2016 will lift exports by 10 per cent over the next 12 years.
