H&M will open its doors at 10am tomorrow, the first of Commercial Bay’s 100 retail and food shops.
The 18,000sq m new retail precinct will be spread over the bottom three levels of a 39-storey tower, at the site that was previously Auckland's Downtown shopping mall.
Commercial Bay is owned and developed by Precinct Properties, which is using the location’s original name from the 1800s.
Scott Pritchard, Precinct’s chief executive, said the company was very excited that H&M had chosen Commercial Bay as the site for their high-profile store.
“The flagship store will continue the regeneration of the lower Queen Street and Britomart precincts and puts Commercial Bay firmly on the fashion map of Auckland," he said in a statement.
Covering 3500sq m and four storeys high, the H&M store will be the largest of its kind in New Zealand, and will be the first H&M store in Auckland with a homeware department.
The retail area of Commercial Bay will be completed in September 2019.
The Commercial Bay 39,000s qm project is estimated to cost more than $1b, after it was announced that the HSBC block has been bought and will be revamped into an InterContinental Hotel by the end of 2022.
