An architectural PhD candidate has made a 3D model of North Shore’s Sunnynook to nurture a sense of community among its residents.
Architect Peter Carter says the model can become a site where residents communicate their concerns or needs to Government and council.
It could be used to notify the council when there are problems with public infrastructure in a specific location.
Carter created this virtual model to assist the community in its future growth and development.
He says he chose this suburb due to the nature of the increased housing density it will face.
Sunnynook Community has been undergoing numerous developments since the introduction of a new housing policy, allowing for six-storey dwellings by its local bus station.
He says there has not been sufficient collaboration between locals and the government regarding this.
In response, Carter developed his model so residents can see the effect the policy will have on the neighbourhood.
The model will allow locals to see how increased housing density could transform the nature of the suburb from current single-storey dwellings.
Like a community Facebook page, the 3D model can be used as a visual way to give residents a voice in the future of their neighbourhood.
Sunnynook Community Director Bronwyn Bound says the tool can be used as “a good talking point for anyone looking to purchase a property” in the area.
