Auckland Airport’s domestic terminals have been flooded with Air New Zealand passengers demanding to rebook flights after facing frequent cancellations this week.
Domestic Air New Zealand flights are the only flights that have been affected by these cancellations, with international flights going ahead as scheduled.
Passengers trying to get home for the Easter holidays have been left confused about the cause of these recent disruptions.
A passenger that wishes to stay anonymous says that over the weekend, they attempted to fly home from Christchurch to Auckland, and were held back by cancellations three times.
“As a passenger, you want to trust the airline you associate with. We have flown with Air NZ for years and don’t understand what is going on - we have never had this problem before.”
Many Kiwis have been affected by this recent issue, and this passenger fears they aren’t the only one losing trust in air carriers.
“After three flights cancelled in the series of twenty-four hours, we just want to go home or reach the North Island so we can drive ourselves.”
Following recent weather conditions in Auckland over January, there was a delay on all flights to and from Auckland.
There is speculation that these cancellations are due to repercussions from the recent storms.
Air New Zealand flight attendant Greer MaGill ensures there will be a change in the future as the airline recovers from recent Auckland flooding.
“Following the weather in Auckland recently, we are doing everything we can to ensure our customers get to where they want to be.”
MaGill also touches on the support Air New Zealand is offering to their passengers to help manage recent disruptions.
“Since the floods in Auckland, we have added extra flights to compete with our high-demand destinations.”
There is hope that this will lead to less traveling disruptions, and Air New Zealand passengers can fly with peace of mind, knowing they will reach their destination.
