Car-parking problematic for residents in new Te Atatū housing developments

ACT MP Simon Court fears three housing developments in Te Atatū will create problematic parking for residents.

New housing developments by Kāinga Ora, William Corporation and Ozarch Architect, are all set to go up on Kerville Ave in Te Atatū.

“With the growing number of residents, locals are concerned that parking and public transport will become an issue,” says Court.

“People aren’t allowed to have car parks therefore the expectation is the cars will be parked off street or they should have no car.”

William Corporation is building 11 one-bedroom town houses with no designated personal carparks.

Blaire Chappell, manager director of William Corporation, declined to comment.

Te Atatū resident Darna Appleyard says parking is a "huge problem".

"The cars are crowded and parked everywhere . . . There is no garage available either.”

Kāinga Ora plans to build 21 state homes ranging from one to three-bedroom properties.

Quentin Bright, senior media advisor for Kāinga Ora, says each home will be allocated one carpark.

“If there were other people in our development that needed to park, they’d need to find somewhere else,” says Bright.
