An Auckland community group is doing its best to tackle the cost-of-living crisis by helping locals who can’t afford daily meals.

Life Community Kitchens is an Auckland-based company offering free meals to community members across its various sites.

The organisation holds their events at eight different locations in Auckland across four different days, with dine-in and takeaway options.

The cost-of-living crisis has made it hard for many people to afford everyday things such as food, water, and clothing.

Community organisations are doing their best to tackle the issue, and that is why consumers and volunteers of Life Community Kitchens view it as an important part of the community.

Life Community Kitchens volunteer Evita Lewis regularly helps out at their kitchen in Otara and says the organisation is a key pillar in the Auckland community.

“It’s very important, it brings a sense of belonging in your neighbourhood, and everyone from different backgrounds comes to life community kitchens for a meal.”

Community marketing manager Anaiis Smith says the organisation also has policies against discrimination and labels to create a more friendly environment.

“We believe that creating a welcoming and warm environment is absolutely crucial to any activity we have.”

“Creating community is about having a no strings attached approach, with open arms to whoever needs a meal, or simply someone to say that they matter,” Smith says.

Life Community Kitchens hold their next community event in Otara on Monday, April 10 from 6pm, at Te Puke o Tara Community Centre.
